What is the Japan Oilseed Processors Association?

The Japan Oilseed Processors Association is a non-profit industry association composed of corporations that manufacture and process vegetable oil in Japan.

In conjunction with the dissolution of the Japan Oil & Fats Manufacturers Association that had been established in 1943, the Japan Oil & Fats Association was founded as a new industry organization in late February of 1962. In addition to serving as an industry group, the association also started non-profit activities.

In 1992, the name of the Association was changed to the Japan Oilseed Processors Association. This change was made in order to clearly indicate that member corporations are involved in the production of vegetable oil. Afterwards, in conjunction with amendment to the system for public interest corporations, the Japan Oilseed Processors Association was established as a general incorporated association on April 1 of 2012.

The Japan Oilseed Processors Association is abbreviated as JOPA.

Role of the Japan Oilseed Processors Association

The Japan Oilseed Processors Association has two main roles.

The first is to serve as a collective of corporations that produce and process vegetable oil in Japan. In order to fulfill the basic responsibility of stably supplying high-quality vegetable oil that contributes to the maintenance of health, the JOPA serves as an industry association that enables member corporations to create an environment of highly-transparent competition and mutual cooperation.

The second role is that of activities for public benefit; specifically, transmitting a variety of information on vegetable oil, holding seminars, etc.

The second role is a legally compulsory duty of public interest corporations. However, JOPA was released from this duty when transitioning to become a general incorporated association. Even so, based on the foundation that we built as a public interest corporation, JOPA will continue to fulfill public interest roles for the benefit of consumers and customers.
