Q8: What is the expiration date for edible oil? What is the shelf-life after opening?
The expiration date for oil indicates the period in which oil retains a good flavor. It also indicates the period during which the oil can fully exert its outstanding functions for nutrition and cooking. Currently, the following approximate expiration dates are set by manufacturers for products based on the speed of natural oxidation.

Oil in cans, colored bottles, and paper containers: Approx. 2 years from the manufacturing date
Oil in transparent glass bottles: Approx. 1.5 years from the manufacturing date
Oil in plastic containers: Approx. 1 year from the manufacturing date

These are approximate expiration dates for normal oils such as salad oil. Sesame oil contains lignan, a natural antioxidant which prevents oxidation. As a result, sesame oil has an expiration date that is 6 months longer than the dates listed above. Oil contained in cans and similar packaging have a longer expiration date because sunlight is on factor which degrades the quality of oil.

Expiration dates are set for unopened containers. After opening, oil should be used as soon as possible regardless of the expiration date. Depending on storage conditions, we recommend using the oil within 1 to 2 months after opening.
